‘Random Acts of Theatre’ Seeks Directors, Crews for Summer Productions

The Dearborn Area Theatre Association (DATA) is now a part of the newly formed Summer Arts Academy, a program of the Dearborn Recreation & Parks Department for the 2014-2015 theater season.

Through this alliance, DATA will produce a full evening of entertainment called “Random Acts of Theatre”  at 8 p.m., Aug.15-16, on the Michael A. Guido Theater stage at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center.

The collaborative evening of performance will showcase many accomplished and skilled artisans from the Dearborn and Dearborn Heights community during an intimate “in the round” performance that allows the audience to sit on the main stage.

Designed as a way to engage as many talented directors, actors and production staff as possible, Random Acts of Theatre will feature a variety of one-act plays and Reader’s Theatre in a two-hour time frame.

First up is a call for interested directors from the Dearborn/Dearborn Heights area who would like direct a 10- to 15-minute performance for the show. Those who are interested in directing should visit the DATA website at dearbornareatheatre.org to review production rules and download an application to submit to the production committee by May 1, 2014.  Directors must have a script in mind before submitting an application. Directors will be interviewed by appointment in early May.

DATA is also seeking candidates to fill technical theater positions. Candidates should submit letters of interest, along with a brief resume, to randomactsoftheatredvb@aol.com by May 1. Production staff needs to be available from mid-July until the completion of the production in August.

Actors ages 18 and up are encouraged to attend open auditions on June 9 and 10. Role descriptions and available parts will be announced in late May and posted on the DATA website. All actors will be asked to fill out an audition form which will include a brief resume.  Actors and production staff must be available during the summer to rehearse and prepare for the performance.

The Dearborn Community Fund supports and promotes DATA, Random Acts of Theatre, and the Summer Arts Academy at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center.
