Rock and Roll Comes to Life in The Encore's 'Smokey Joe's Cafe'

The show opens on Feb. 2 in Dexter. Tickets are on sale now for all shows.

Rock and Roll Comes to Life in The Encore's 'Smokey Joe's Cafe'

Mike Stoller and Jerry Leiber, as much as anyone, virtually invented rock and roll music, and in upcoming production of Smokey Joe’s Cafe, their songs provide the basis for an electrifying night of entertainment that illuminates a golden age of American culture.

In an idealized 1950s setting, the classic themes of love won, lost and imagined blend with hilarious choreography and slice-of-life emotions. Featuring nearly 40 classic rock hits, Smokey Joe’s Cafe isn’t just great pop music – it’s compelling musical theatre.

The show features some of the best songs ever written, including favorites like “Stand By Me," “Jail House Rock” and “On Broadway” to name a few. And, as if the music weren’t enough, the cast at The Encore is stellar with familiar faces, as well as the return of Tony D. Owens Jr., who last appeared as the jive talkin’ Valentine in The Encore’s Club Morocco.

Guests at the official opening night performance of Smokey Joe’s Cafe on Feb. 3 are invited to attend the Opening Night After Glow Party with cast and crew. Hors d’oeuvres will be provided along with a cash bar. And, don’t forget to book your lunch package tickets for the only weekday matinee on Feb. 23. Lunch will be served at at 1 p.m., followed by the 3 p.m. matinee. Lunch packages include a ticket to the show, any sandwich with fries or side salad, dessert, a non-alcoholic beverage, plus tax and tip. The cost is $39.

Smokey Joe’s Cafe will run Feb. 2-26. Tickets are available by visiting The Encore’s website at http://theencoretheatre.org or call 734-268-6200.
