State Rep. Mark Ouimet Kicks-Off Summer Reading Challenge

Editor's note: This press release was submitted by state Rep. Mark Ouimet's office.

State Rep. Mark Ouimet (R-Scio Township) is kicking-off a summer reading contest to help local students retain and improve their reading skills.

Contest winners will travel to the state capitol as "lawmakers for a day" and participate in legislative activities.

Students can submit the titles of their completed books and the pages read by e-mail at markouimet@house.mi.gov.  Participants are asked to write "Summer Reading Contest" in the subject line.  Each submission is another entry in the contest, so students are encouraged to read early and often. At the end of the contest, two students from each school will be chosen as winners, and can participate in a "Lawmaker for a Day" event in Lansing.

"Reading is so important for individual achievement and comprehension, and it's fun contests like this that will hopefully encourage students to pick up a book or two this summer," Ouimet said. "We have a fun-filled and informative day planned for the contest winners, so I hope many local students get involved and start reading."

The contest is open to students who will be starting grades four through seven this fall. Students who complete a book should ask a parent to e-mail the book title and number of pages to Ouimet's office. Winners will be chosen based on the number of pages read.

For information, contact Ouimet at 1-855-627-5052 or e-mail markouimet@house.mi.gov.
