5 Things You Should Know Today - April 10, 2012

It may be another windy, maybe even rainy day in Farmington and Farmington Hills, but you can still enjoy a tour of some fine art reproductions. Here's what else you should know: 

1. The weather

The National Weather Service predicts a slight chance of rain and snow showers today before 2 p.m. today, then rain this afternoon and evening. Expect a high around 45 and a low around 31, with winds gusting from 28-31 miles per hour.

2. Inside|Out bus tours

While you can walk through the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) exhibits, getting around the is more of a challenge. The city is making it easy today, offering bus tours at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., with a DIA representative narrating. The cost is $5; you must pre-register by calling 248-473-1856. 

3. Farmington School Board meeting

The board's Policy and Board Operations subcommittee will meet tonight at 6 p.m., then the full board will take up their regular study session agenda at 7:30 p.m., at the  in Farmington. Agendas for both meetings are attached to this post. 

4. Look ahead:

At 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the Oakland Child Care Council’s Early Learning Center will present a free workshop "Hold the Praise: Try Encouragement!" at the . Learn three encouragement strategies, the negative implications of praise, and the benefits of using encouragement. Advance registration is requested, call 248-658-5506.

5. Look ahead:

Local veterinarian Christian Ast and Gail Novak-Phelps from the MI State Animal Response Team will speak during this free seminar, held Thursday, 6:30 p.m., at the in Farmington Hills. You'll learn how to make sure your treasured family member is protected in an emergency, and about volunteers and responders who aid animals during emergencies and disasters. No registration is required.
