Farmington Hills Police Nab Home Invasion Suspect

Victim awoke about 4:15 a.m. Monday and was confronted by the suspect, who was armed with a knife and a gun.

Police have arrested a suspect who allegedly entered a Farmington Hills residence early Monday morning, struggled briefly with the resident and then jumped out a second-floor window before stealing the victim’s Cadillac Escalade.

The victim, who lives in the Hunters Ridge complex at Orchard Lake Road and 14 Mile Road, awoke about 4:15 a.m. to noises in his residence and was confronted by a white male armed with a handgun and knife. A brief struggle ensued, and the suspect jumped from the second-floor window. The knife and the gun, which turned out to be a BB gun, were recovered at the scene.

The victim was not injured in the home invasion.

After police received a tip of someone trying to break into a garage later that day, Mark Steven Steiner, 56, of Oakland Township was arrested. He was arraigned by 47th District Court Judge Marla Parker, and charged with one count of armed robbery, first-degree home invasion and assault with a dangerous weapon-felonious assault.

Parker set Steiner’s bond at $100,000. He’s due back in court Friday for a pre-exam conference, and his preliminary examination is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21.

Farmington Hills Police Chief Charles Nebus praised not only the resident who called in the tip, but also the the teamwork of the patrol officers, evidence technicians, detectives and the South Oakland Narcotics Intelligence Consortium (SONIC), comprised of officers from the Farmington Hills, West Bloomfield Township, and Novi Police Departments and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
