Nearly 3,400 Without Power in Grosse Pointes, Detroit

The spotty outages are heaviest in Grosse Pointe Farms and Grosse Pointe Park and follow tonight's severe thunderstorms and lightening. DTE has not yet have an estimated time for restoration.

Lightening lit up Lake St. Clair and the Grosse Pointes tonight before, during and after the severe thunderstorms that rolled through the area. The weather threatened cancellation of the fireworks display but ultimately cleared just in time.

Following the storms, that are responsible for downing at least a few trees in , more than 3,300 Grosse Pointers are without power, according to DTE.

The outage maps show the 2,518 outages in the 48230 zip code and 817 in the 48236 zip code. The concentration is heaviest in Grosse Pointe Park and .

In the Park, the area between Jefferson and Lake St. Clair as well as the neighborhoods nearing Alter Road are most affected. In the Farms, the neighborhoods south of Moross Road are most affected.

Most were reported as area outages beginning between 8:15 p.m. and 10 p.m. DTE does not yet have an estimation about when power will be restored. 

The National Weather Service issued as a severe thunderstorm warning, which has since been cancelled. Reports throughout the Detroit metro area show downed trees, hail and even a few sightings of funnel clouds.

According to the National Weather Service forecast, partly cloudy conditions will remain overnight with a low of 69 degrees. Sunday is expected to be sunny, clear and 84 degrees, with clouds moving back in at night.

Despite the bad weather, Grosse Pointe Farms fireworks began a few minutes after 10 p.m. Park goers were ushered into the community center during the storms but Farms officials kept everyone posted on the status of the fireworks. Lightening lit up the night sky several time during the fireworks show. 

Some of the same customers are likely without power for the second time in a little more than a week. . Meanwhile, residents in Grosse Pointe Woods----is relatively unaffected, according to the DTE maps.
