LaFontaine Praises Snyder's Speech

Republican state representative lauds governor's emphasis on public safety in 2012 State of the State Address.

LaFontaine Praises Snyder's Speech

State representative Andrea LaFontaine praised Gov. Rick Snyder’s State of the State Address on Wednesday.

"I was inspired by what the governor had to say,” LaFontaine said in a press release. “Last year as I watched his first speech, I was nervous about the countless obstacles we had to overcome to begin to repair our economy. One year later, I'm more confident than ever in our state. Jobs are on the upswing and revenue increases will follow.”

LaFontaine, a Republican from Columbus Township who represents New Baltimore and Chesterfield Township, singled out the governor’s remarks on public safety.

Snyder promised to give a special message on public safety in March, and he vowed to reduce crime in Detroit, Flint and Saginaw.

"I was especially pleased to hear Gov. Snyder place an emphasis on public safety,” LaFontaine said. “This is an issue that should always be a priority. Keeping our communities safe is of utmost importance, and I was proud to have St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon with me to hear this message. I look forward to working with him and other members of the district to address public safety issues during the coming year.

"We still have more work to do to create the best possible environment for job creation, and I'm eager to keep pushing forward."

Snyder’s speech touched on a variety of subjects, from job growth to educational reform.
