Canton Woman's Love for Pooch Leads to Pet Massage and Concierge Business

PAWSitive Pet Massage and Concierge will hold an open house at the Plymouth Cultural Center on Saturday from 1-4 p.m.

Canton resident Jennifer Williams was relaxing one evening a few years ago while petting her dog Wednesday when she felt something unusual - a bump.

The lump turned out to be cancer, and after talking with a groomer on ways to help Wednesday, Jennifer began to look into pet massage therapy classes, which in turn led to the founding of PAWSitive Pet Massage and Concierge last October.

"The benefits (of pet massage) are for flexibility or if a dog is experiencing any type of anxiety issues," Williams said. "It releases toxins out of the body and increases blood flow. Anything that it does for a human, it does the exact same thing for an animal."

Wednesday, now 12-years-old, has arthritis and bone spurs in her front legs.

"She couldn't move her legs very well, she walked kind of funny," Williams said. "But now, since she gets massages at home a few times a week, she can actually bend her legs more. Now she can walk better and she can walk a little bit longer, so it's really helped her.

Her current clientele has been all word of mouth. Now Williams is looking to increase awareness of her business. PAWSitive PetMassage and Concierge will host an open house at the Plymouth Cultural Center on Saturday from 1-4 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public—and their furry companions. In addition to pet massage demonstrations, the event will include pet photos with Jill Andra Young Photography, pet drawings by Chris Bramer of Indent and a presentation by Dog Scouts of America.

Other vendors will include Trust & Obey Pawsitive Dog Training, Lydia'z Kitchen, Three Dogs Bakery, Quali Pet, PAWS Grooming, Fun Time Dog Shop, Three Dogz, Scentsy, and the Great Lakes Zoological Society.

Visitors can pick up treats, pamper their pets and learn about training and grooming options.

PAWSitive Pet Massage & Concierge offers massage, dog walking, out-of-town pet sitting, pet taxi, puppy care and concierge service. For more information, visit  pawsitivepetmassage.com
