Plymouth Fife & Drum Corps Receives Grant for Equipment

— Submitted by Plymouth Fife & Drum Corps

The Plymouth Fife & Drum Corps will be able to buy new drum and guard equipment, thanks to a grant the organization recently received from the Community Foundation of Plymouth.

The Community Foundation of Plymouth presented Fife & Drum Corps President Gayl Parr with a $3,392 check, which will be used to purchase a new  drum major mace, a musket, swords and other replacement parts for their drums and new guard equipment, according to a news release from the Fife & Drum Corps.

According to the news release, the group's equipment and uniforms are historically accurate to those worn by George Washington’s personal life guard and are expensive to replace.

“Our old equipment was starting to show its age," Plymouth Fife & Drum Corps Musical Director Jim Predhomme said in the news release. "Because of this grant, we will be able to replace a lot of aging equipment all at the same time instead of piece-by-piece over many years.  It will really have a great impact on the appearance of the corps."

Predhomme said the donation is especially timely, as the group this year will represent Plymouth to Independence Hall in Philadelphia and to the Deep River Ancient Muster in Conneticut.

The Deep River Ancient Muster,  Predhomme said in the news release, is the largest Fife & Drum gathering in the world.

"It’s essential the Corps looks its best for this event," he said in the news release.

Plymouth Fife and Drum Corps Ways & Means Chairman Lisa LiGreci said she was thankful for the donation.

“I’m so grateful to the Community Foundation of Plymouth," she said in the news release. "The support is especially important as we don’t receive funding from the schools or government. PFDC is one of Plymouth’s jewels. The community is lucky to have a world class Fife & Drum Corps to call its own.”
