Gemmayze Shuts Its Doors on Main Street in Downtown Royal Oak
The Lebanese kitchen and lounge made its announcement on Facebook.
"Today Gemmayze closed its doors. Thank you all for your support. Until next time..."
The Lebanese kitchen and lounge joins a long list of establishments that are leaving Main Street. Thai on Main is one of the most recent, the others include Incognito, Cold Stone Creamery, Franklin Fine Wine and Ariana Gallery.
Barnes & Noble Bookseller is closing on April 5.
The 168-seat restaurant, which occupied the former home of Small Plates, opened its doors in the spring of 2011.
In December, the Royal Oak City Commission approved a request to change the name of Gemmayze's second floor to Drink Market and add a dance floor and DJ booth. Owners told commissioners they planned to pump more money into the business.
So what happened? Sources say they believe the issue is rent and that a new tenant will be moving in soon.
