Lawsuit Seeks to Shut Down Detroit Abortion Clinic
Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette says clinic violates state law requiring licensed physicians own clinics providing medical services.

DETROIT, MI – A Detroit clinic is performing abortions illegally because it isn’t owned by a licensed physician, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette alleges in a civil lawsuit filed Thursday in Wayne County Circuit Court to shut down the clinic.
Summit Women’s Center, 15801 W. Nichols Road, is in violation of state law that requires medical services be provided through professional corporations owned by licensed physicians.

Summit responded, saying that medical services were provided through Summit P.C., a medical group incorporated in 2011 by Dr. Alex Pickens Jr., and the complaint was closed.
In 2015, Summit P.C. filed new paperwork with the state certifying that David Lipton, who isn’t a licensed physician, is Summit P.C.’s sole officer, director and owner, and that the corporation’s purpose was as a “management corporation.”

Schuette claims the report also falsely certified that Lipton was a licensed professional, Schuette said.
