Royal Oak Reacts to End of Saturday Mail Delivery

Most around town agree with the Postal Service's new Monday-Friday letter delivery.

Royal Oak Reacts to End of Saturday Mail Delivery

When the U.S. Postal Service announced on Wednesday that mail would no longer be delivered on Saturdays, Roylal Oak residents reacted positively.

On the Royal Oak Patch Facebook page, readers sounded off on the change, which the Postal Service says will save about $2 billion annually. The new Monday-Friday letter delivery schedule will begin in August; packages will still be delivered on Saturdays.

"Just one less day to receive junk mail," said reader Sonya Mastick.

"The main thing I would miss is package delivery. Since this isn't affecting that, I won't miss it at all," said reader Nate Alpine.

"It's a sign of the times, we will have to adjust," said reader Samantha Spencer Pattison.

Reader Linda Lee White said she would miss Saturday delivery, but added, "I knew it was coming."

In a statement, the postal service said it continues to seek legislation to provide it with "greater flexibilit to control costs and generate new revenue."
