Royal Oak Teacher Heads to LA to Compete on Wheel of Fortune

A Royal Oak teacher will put her word puzzle solving skills to the test on Wheel of Fortune on Jan. 30

Kristin Wasil, who teaches fourth grade at  Upton Elementary, tried out for the show in April with friend Jessica Kiefer, who is also a teacher in Minnesota.

After filling out an application to be on the show, Wasil was asked to send in a one-minute audition video. Her video caught the attention of the show's talent scouts and she was called in for a live audition were she had to compete in a mock puzzle and take several written puzzle tests.

"We were graded on our personality and our puzzle tests," Wasil said.

Of the 200 people that auditioned, 20 were picked to be on the show.

"We got a  letter in May saying we were chosen," Wasil said. "The letter said we would hear in a year or two when we would be on the show."

Last Wednesday, Wasil received an email that asked her to be in Los Angeles in two weeks.

"We arrive on Jan. 29 and we'll spend the day at Sony Picture Studios," she said. "The next day we tape. They tape six episodes per day."

After Wasil graduated from University of Michigan, she moved to  Fort Meyer, FL were she taught for six years.

"I wanted to move back to Michigan to be near my family," she said. "I was so happy when I got this job. I love Royal Oak."

Her participation on the show is in conjunction with Wheel of Fortune's Girls Getaway Week. Wasil could win a car, trip or as much as $1 million in cash.

Wasil was told her episode will air sometime at the end of March.

Stay tuned.
