The children of Mon Ami Day Care & Nursery School in Royal Oak show how to have some fun with the annual 'holiday.'

Today, the children at will be making Groundhog Day puppets in honor of Punxsutawney Phil who comes out of his burrow at 7:20 a.m. on Feb. 2.

Tradition has it, if the rodent sees his shadow, he expects six weeks of bad weather. If Phil is shadowless, it is a sign that spring is near.

Watch the video to learn how to assemble a groundhog puppet. You'll need these supplies:

  • brown construction paper
  • scissors
  • crayons or markers
  • Popsicle stick
  • glue
