Shelby Township Election Results: Stathakis Wins GOP Supervisor's Race

The Shelby Township elections have been tallied and Rick Stathakis has won the GOP primary in the supervisor's race.

The results from Tuesday's Primary election race are in.

Here's a look at who won spots on the Shelby Township Board of Trustees, according to unofficial results from the Macomb County Clerk Tuesday night, with 100 percent precints reporting.

Supervisor

Incumbent Republican candidate has won the Republican primary. Stathakis finished the race with 56.1% or 5,859 votes over his opponent,, 43.9% or 4,588 votes. Stathakis will face David Erickson, who is running as an independent, on the Nov. 6 general elections.

Clerk

Republican —who was appointed by the Board of Trustees in the winter to fill the remainder of former Clerk Terri Kowal's term—will be the clerk for the next four years. Grot garnered 52.1% or 5,102 votes over former Shelby Township firefigther who got 4,682 votes or 47.9%. Batchelder also ran as a Republican.

Treasurer

Current Trustee and Republican will be the new treasurer, beating out trustee and fellow Republican . Flynn earned 5,351 or 53.6% of the votes over Manzella's 5,351 votes or 46.3%. 

Shelby Township Trustees

Four Republicans and one Democrat will vie for the four spots on the Board of Trustees during the Nov. 6 General Elections:  and current treasurer , and newcomers . Wozniak was the top vote-getter with 11.9% of the votes; Filar garnered 11.7%; and Viar had 11.2% and Nightingale finished with 10.4%. All the winners were Republicans. the only Democrat in the race also will appear on the Nov. 6 ballot. Cook earned 1,855 votes during the primary race. 

As early race results poured in Tuesday night and Leman's numbers were down, he told Patch that he was happy with his campaign because he beleived it was fair.

"If the voters didn't educate themselves on the past four years, than that's something they have to live with," he said.

Shelby Township resident Kim Daniels told Patch after she voted Tuesday that she voted for Stathakis and all of the incuments because she was pleased with business thus far. 

"We (Daniels and her husband) voted for the ones in there now because we think Shelby Township is booming," she said. "I am so glad we moved here 13 years ago."

Correction

Patch.com erroneously reported that candidate for Shelby Township Trustee, Gary E. Kopp, advanced to the Nov. 6 elections to vie for one of four open seats. Kopp was the fifth highest Republican vote getter during the primary elections Tuesday. However, only the top four Republican candidates advanced. Five names, including, Democrat Clarence Cook, will appear on the general elections ballot.
