City to Purchase New Ambulance for St. Clair Shores
New vehicle is within budget; rebuilding old chassis wasn't worth it: City Manager

ST. CLAIR SHORES, MI — St. Clair Shores will soon be getting a new ambulance. City Council has approved the purchase of a new vehicle to replace one that is often under repair, The St. Clair Shores Sentinel reported.
Rebuilding the ambulance on a new chassis, as the city has done in the past, wasn't an option because only heavy-duty chassis that exceed the city's needs were available, Fire Chief George Morehouse told the St. Clair Shores City Council at a recent meeting. The chassis used in the last two rebuilds have been discontinued by manufacturers.
The cost difference between rebuilding an ambulance and buying a new one is about $15,000.

“The box is new; the ride is the same ride we’ve got now on the Ford chassis,” City Manager Mike Smith said. “It’s still within the budget that we laid out.”
