Okay, so I’m hardly an athlete but I have always managed to live an active life style.

Dancing, swimming, cheerleading and classes at the local gym. I worked out the entire nine months with my first-born, and three kids later, what happened?

Sure, I have been able to lose all the baby weight, but something happens the older you get. Your body changes and things just don’t look or work the way they used to.

Recently, I tried to show my oldest how to do the monkey bars at the park and nearly pulled every muscle in my back. Ouch! Thank you, to Chase Chiropractic for always fixing my issues.

I thought, “man do I need to exercise!" What happen to the monkey bar, tree climbing and foot-loose and fancy-girl I used to be?

Gasp, did I say the word exercise? I thought chasing my kids around the house, at the park, in the back yard and the 21 loads of laundry I carry up the stairs in a week would be enough. I’m starting to think otherwise - unfortunately.

I know I am not alone in this juggling venture of parenthood. I also know I am not the only parent to fall off the workout bandwagon either!

It is getting back on that is going to be the challenge. Where to start?

With what time do I have to spare? One of the best things about summer is the opportunity for a more active lifestyle. Start small!

Set a goal and write it down. If you really want be held accountable share it with us here on the Patch! My goal is to do 40 minutes of exercise three to four times a week: 20 minutes in the morning and 20 in the evening. Daily exercise in segments is better than nothing at all.

Build Endurance. Start with evening walks with the family, a jog around the block, and slowly build up from there. Incorporate cardiovascular and strength training exercises for the best balance.  

Find a workout buddy. A neighbor, a friend, a significant other, your children! Combine quality family time and exercise for a win-win scenario! Some active family activities include: playing tag, going for a neighborhood hike, playing soccer, golf, baseball, going for a bike ride and have fun.

Stay Positive. Do not expect a miracle. Remember we are like fine wine …. we get better with age!

Join a Gym and/or Class.  Power House, the , and all have lots to offer from classes to workout equipment!

As with any physical activity please consult your physician first for your safety and well-being. Exercise is a necessity and not an option. It is the key to our future with our families!
