Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel announced Monday that Standard & Poors issued a AAA bond rating for the next two years.
"This is a huge vote of confidence from Standard & Poors," Hackel said.
He added that the two year extension was made possible through the work of his fellow elected officials, department heads and county employees.
The county has had a AAA bond rating since 2002, and will result in nearly $400,000 in savings when Macomb refinances bonds issued in 2004 at lower interest rates.
Macomb is one of three counties in Michigan with AAA rating, and one of 67 nationwide this high rating.
