Republicans Open Eastside Campaign Center

Republican volunteers have established a campaign center on 9 Mile, just west of Jefferson, in St. Clair Shores.

The center is a meeting place for candidates, volunteers and those interested in receiving additional information about candidates and pick up lawn signs, according to local Republicans.

"We wanted to have something local for all the different candidates in St. Clair Shores, Grosse Pointes and surrounding areas in Macomb and Wayne counties," said volunteer Eric Goosen.

The center has seen increased activity since Wednesday's presidential debate. Volunteers said they had received over 100 requests for Romney signs by mid-day Thursday.

Volunteers will also gather for a "Super Saturday" effort Oct. 6 to go door-to-door to talk with voters.

"People want to have the opportunity to interact with the candidates, or someone from their campaign, and ask them questions, get a feel for them," said Candice Rusie, R-St. Clair Shores, who is running for state representative against Democrat Sarah Roberts.

Rusie added that the center is in a highly visible location.

"The location is wonderful," she said. "It is so visible being right on 9 Mile, near Jefferson."
