Not Watching the Super Bowl? 5 Great Things To Do Instead

How the football-adverse can get the best out of Super Bowl Sunday.

Not Watching the Super Bowl? 5 Great Things To Do Instead

The best Super Bowl Sunday I can remember involved zero finger food, no half-time show, not even any football. Instead, I spent the day at Disneyland. My brother had made the realization that the ‘Happiest Place on Earth’ is even happier on Super Bowl Sunday when the crowds stay home to watch the big game.

Although I can hardly travel to Disneyland every year, there are still plenty of ways to take advantage the Super Bowl’s powers of crowd control.

For those of us that either don’t particularly care about sports, are boycotting football, or simply plan to sit out Super Bowl XLVIII, here are 5 ways to make the most of Super Bowl Sunday:

1) Easy restaurant rez: Call around town. You just might score a table that usually requires three months advance booking. Also, this Sunday is a great night try one of those restaurants that don’t take reservations --  but usually have a 45-minute wait. Bon appetit!

2) Your pick of elliptical machines: If you tend to avoid the gym on Sundays because you hate waiting for cardio equipment, or because the Zumba class is usually too full, you’ve got no excuse this week. It’ll be all yours.

3) Teach someone to drive: During the game the roads will be quiet. Just be sure to clear off before time on the game clock runs out. Historically, Super Bowl Sunday is notorious for drunk driving fatalities. You don’t want to be anywhere near a car after the game.

4) Hello gorgeous: The mall, not always considered the most relaxing spot on the weekends, is paradise on Super Bowl Sunday. No waits for the dressing room, no competition for the good stuff, and parking will be a snap. If your mall has a movie theater, consider checking in for a movie. You could get a whole row to yourself.

5) Pick up a shift: For anyone working in the service industry, Super Bowl Sunday is a great day to fill in for a co-worker who wants to watch the game. You’ll earn points at work and make some extra scratch.

Do you have any Super Bowl Sunday tips for readers who don’t plan to watch the game?  Tell us in the comments or in a blog post.
