3 Suspicious Fires in 2 Weeks Fray Nerves in Wyandotte

Residents living on Wyandotte’s north end are feeling vulnerable and unnerved after three suspicious fires in vacant houses over the past two weeks

Residents on Bondie Street are making sure someone is awake keeping vigil, the Press & Guide reports.

The Wyandotte City Council on Monday heard concerns from residents, including retired police officer and former council candidate Valentino Zavala, who said the fires have left residents in the area terrified.

Mayor Joseph Peterson said fire investigators are looking into the causes of the fires and are determined to find out how they occurred and, if arson is involved, who is responsible. He said he didn’t want to downplay the seriousness of what has been occurring, but pointed out that but said no residents were put in harm’s way because the houses were abandoned.

“If they were occupied, you would be talking about attempted murder,” Zavala countered.
