This month’s Friday After 5 event has been planned as a feast for the eyes and treat for the taste buds for those who visit downtown Wyandotte.

Chalk & Chocolate in Wyandotte, sponsored by the Downtown Development Authority, will take place on Aug. 31 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and feature more than a dozen artists creating temporary sidewalk chalk displays. At the same time, many downtown businesses will be offering specials and giveaways on chocolate dishes, desserts and drinks. A complete list can be found at the bottom of this page.

Overall, more than a dozen professional, emerging and student artists are scheduled to be on-hand creating chalk displays on downtown sidewalks, including staff and volunteers from the .

Also, chalk will be provided for any visitors who get inspired to create their own sidewalk chalk masterpieces that evening.

Recently similar events have taken place in other cities, such as , and have been a hit with both visitors and the artists.

DDA Director Natalie Rankine said that success, coupled with the opportunity to put Wyandotte’s artists on display, inspired the DDA to create the event.

“Wyandotte is a thriving arts community and what better way to show off our local talent than bringing that art to the streets,” Rankine said. “The great deals and chocolate giveaways only help to sweeten the deal.”

Below are the participating businesses and the chocolate deals they are offering, as of Aug. 30. A complete list, as well as maps of artist locations, can be picked up on the evening of the event at the clock tower, which is located at Maple and Biddle.
