You've Got Photos: Downtown Wyandotte Wine Crawl

The 7th annual Wyandotte Business Association Wine Crawl overtook Biddle Avenue on Friday night.

A few thousand people filled the streets of downtown Wyandotte on Friday for the .

WBA Executive Director Lynn Steffensky said her association purchased 1,800 commemorative wine glasses to sell to customers, thinking that would be enough. As she told the story on Saturday, she laughed.

Those 1,800 glasses were sold out by 7 p.m. The four-hour event went from 5 to 9 p.m.

Association members rushed to a nearby dollar store and purchased regular glasses to sell so that more people could partake in the event.

All of those glasses also sold out, leading organizers to scurry back to the store to purchase dozens and dozens of plastic cups.

All in all, Steffensky said, she guesses about 2,300 glasses and cups were sold, for $20 each.

All of the proceeds will be split between Josephine Ford Cancer Center Downriver, and the .

"It was a phenomenal event," Steffensky said. "It was exciting. ... We had double the amount of wine being served over last year, but triple the amount of people. Who would have guessed?"

Next year, she said, the association plans to purchase about 5,000 glasses, with the expectation that attendance will continue to increase.

For those who don't want to wait a year for another alcohol event or those who don't like wine, don't worry. The association has you covered.

Next month's Third Friday will be a Beer Bash on Sept. 16. Similar to the wine tasting, Wyandotte businesses will be offering samples of various kinds of beer. Legendary local band will perform during the Beer Bash.
