More Than 100 Edina Business Students Heading to State Conference

More Than 100 Edina Business Students Heading to State Conference
DECA, a marketing, management, and entrepreneurship class offered at Edina High School, is sending more than 100 students to the State Career Development Conference in Minneapolis this March.

Edina students will compete in marketing role play, sales demonstrations, mock interviews, public speaking, and written events.

Here's more from Alicia Savino, the school's DECA teacher:

DECA is a co-curricular business course offered at EHS, which focuses on marketing, management, and entrepreneurship.  The co-curricular format allows students to learn course content in the classroom and use it to compete in marketing plans and case study scenarios at district, state, and national levels.

Top Edina DECA role play competitors include Abigail Rogers, Maggie Byrne, and Katelyn Linton in the Apparel and Accessories Marketing Event, Sara Kruempelstaedter in the Business Financial Services event, Adair Fogelberg and Charles Manion in the Sports & Entertainment Marketing Event, Tommy Clark and Nick Chamberlain in the Marketing Management Event, Annie Engen in the Quick Serve Restaurant Management Event, Maddie Balcer and Allie Duggan in the Buying and Merchandising Team Event, Bekah Barnes, Lindsey Ruehl, Magen Puerzer, and Marisa Paule in the Hospitality Services Event, and Zoe Lilak, Madison Seeley, Megan Docherty, and Lauren Rurik in the Marketing Communications Event.

Many students also placed at the top for their written event category; a category that includes a written component in addition to a presentation.  Ben Kilberg, Natalie Rauchle, Elisabeth Cavanagh, Tommy Clark, Matt Woolsey, Maggie Byrne, and Maddie Hahn took the top spots in their Fashion Promotion Plan event, sweeping the category.  Other successful events for Edina included Sports and Entertainment Promotion Plan and Advertising Campaign where Julia Barnett and Lulu Conner, Lara Hausman, Audrey Sheehy, and Lauren Rurik also placed in the top three.  Top students who took on the task of writing 30 page papers include Elana Sokol, John Moe, Annie Engen, Lucky Hogan, Emily Romanow, Maria Rectenwald, Sophia Edgar, Amy Sherman, and Megan Froemming.

EHS DECA is looking forward to a competitive conference in March and hopes to qualify many students for the International Career Development Conference which takes place in Atlanta, Georgia in early May.
