Golden Valley Cleans Up After Winter Storm

The City's snow emergency is no longer in effect, so drivers can follow regular parking rules.

Golden Valley Cleans Up After Winter Storm

It's been a busy few days for Golden Valley public works staff.

According to Director of Public Works Jeannine Clancy, at 5 a.m. on Sunday morning, staff began snow removal operations. By 5:20 a.m., Golden Valley had accumulated 2 inches of snow. Ten minutes later, the City declared a snow emergency and called in the remainder of snow removal plow route staff. By 6:15 a.m., snow removal efforts were in full force.

"Public works staff was well prepared for this snow event with appropriate staff, equipment and materials in place," Clancy said. "While there were a few snow emergency violators, by and large the community cooperated in moving cars and vehicles off of the roads so that staff could efficiently perform their work."

On Sunday night, all plow route equipment started final clean-up, plowing city streets curb to curb. Clancy said that de-icing agents were applied by 8 a.m. on Monday.

"Sidewalk route staff began clearing Priority 1 and 2 routes but will not complete these routes until Tuesday due to the heavy nature of the snow," Clancy said.

According to Golden Valley's City News publication, Priority 1 sidewalks are walkways that carry higher traffic volumes and are adjacent to County roads or are on the City’s system of collector streets.  Priority 2 sidewalks are usually adjacent to streets that carry less vehicular traffic.

"Winter weather driving conditions will continue in Golden Valley and throughout the state," Clancy warned. "Motorists should adjust their speed for the conditions and stay clear of snow plows."
