Editor’s Note: The following letter comes from Benjamin Waldo, assistant designer at Community Design Group.
What do you most enjoy about walking or biking in Hopkins? Do you have concerns or ideas for making walking or biking safer and better in the city? Whether it’s how you get to school or work in the morning, or how you get to the great trail system, we want to know your thoughts about walking and biking in the City of Hopkins!
The City of Hopkins, in partnership with Hennepin County, is preparing a first ever bicycle and pedestrian plan. The goal of the plan is to increase walkability and bikability by creating a well connected network of routes and facilities that link Hopkins residents to important destinations like school, work, transit, and shopping, and to improve community health and wellness by providing Hopkins residents safer, more attractive options for active transportation in the city.
We want to learn about your ideas and concerns so that the plan can better reflect the needs and aspirations of Hopkins residents. We invite you to attend the following engagement opportunities:
- 7:30am - 12:00pm Saturday, October 13th at the Hopkins Farmers’ Market, 9th Ave, 1/2 block south of the Main Street clock tower
- 10:30am - 2:00pm Sunday, October 14th at The Depot Coffee House’s outdoor patio, 9451 Excelsior Blvd, Hopkins, MN.
Project consultants will be there with maps and other materials that will allow us to gather your ideas, concerns and recommendations.
Work on this Pedestrian and Bicycle Plan is funded by Hennepin County through a Community Transformation Grant. A draft is expected to be completed and available by the end of 2012.
If you are unable to attend, or if you would like to review plan materials and additional information, please visit the plan website at www.hopkins-pedbikeplan.info
