Change is in the air as temperatures in the Lake Minnetonka area begin to dip beginning today and lasting at least through the weekend.

Cold Snap: Expect Temps to Drop Significantly Today

The mercury reached into the upper 70s Wednesday, but those highs could be cut by 20 degrees or more today, with lows dipping into the 30s tonight.

"Expect far different weather conditions (Thursday) from what has been seen across the state for the past week," a statement issued last night by the National Weather Service read. "A powerful fall system will gather strength in the northwestern plains (Wednesday) evening and move across Minnesota tonight and tomorrow. This will dramatically cool temperatures from the 60s and 70s felt across most of the state on Wednesday."

Snow is expected in the northern third of Minnesota, with accumulations potentially piling up several inches from Bemidji and westward. While no percipitation is expected in the Lake Minnetonka area, the National Weather Service says "blustery fall conditions will be felt by all" on Thursday.

Temperatures are only expected to crest in the 50s today, with winds gusts forecast to exceed 20 mph.

Much cooler and dry weather will linger through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service, with high temperatures not expected to climb above 50 degrees.
