A winter storm warning is in effect for Feb. 20-21.

Brace for Near-Blizzard Conditions in Mendota Heights Area

And it begins. Anywhere from 7-11 inches of snow is expected to fall Sunday in the Mendota Heights area, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight, 3-7 inches are predicted. On Washington’s Birthday, (President’s Day), up to one extra inch is expected to fall.

A winter storm warning is in effect until noon Monday. A blizzard warning currently encompasses the western and southern portions of the state and will likely move east.

Wind is expected to reach 21 mph, with gusts up to 29 mph. Sleet and freezing rain could accompany this afternoon’s snowfall.

Driving conditions are hazardous, and the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) has reported on its Twitter feed numerous crashes on area roads, including Interstate 494, Interstate 35E, Highway 13 and Pilot Knob Road.

The National Weather Service is recommending that drivers only travel in the case of an emergency.
