A bottle of extra virgin olive oil, a cuff made out of an old license plate, and a dog walk into downtown Northfield.
No, this isn't a joke. It's fact.
Downtown Northfield is home to three new businesses: an olive oil/vinegar shop, a new studio/gallery, and a dog grooming salon.
Joe Morgan plans to open Northfield Olive Oils and Vinegars around mid-December. The business will be run by Morgan and his wife, Northfield residents for 10 years.
The shop is at 18 Bridge Square, which is the former Reboot Computers space next to the Northfield Historical Society.
The Morgans have wanted to open a small shop in Northfield for some time, tinkering with the ideas of opening a guitar or sandwich shop. After visiting an oil and vinegar shop in Galena, IL, the two found inspiration.
Northfield Olive Oils and Vinegars will offer a variety of products from around the world, like balsamic vinegar from Italy. Customers can come in and taste the products from dispensaries before having it bottled. Bottling options include the 60 ml gift size, the 300 ml standard size, and a 700 ml bottle.
Scrap to art
Makeshift Accessories, a new studio/gallery that opened up downtown recently at 418 Division St. (former Eclectic Goat space), crafts handmade pieces reworked from recycled materials.
The owner, Devin Johnson, had a working studio in Minneapolis before moving to Northfield, where his work had previously been sold at swag. He said the college community, Just Food Co-op and Northfield's historical areas attracted him to the town.
Some of the items on sale in the gallery include: various bracelets; some leather cuffs; cuffs made from recycled license plates; and rings made from copper, coins, clock frames, rulers, spoons and machine plates. Other items, such as notebooks and belts, are on display throughout the store, which is located right next door to Ragstock.

Downtown has also welcomed In the Dog House, a dog grooming parlor.
In the Dog House, which is at 518 Division St. next to the VFW, offers "full grooms, full baths, nail trims, tooth brushing, ear cleaning, and more," according to its website.
The business welcomes clients Monday through Friday by appointment.
