Editor's Note: The following was taken from an Academy of Holy Angels press release.

The has earned an $8,500 grant from the Hennepin County School Recycling Assistance Program.

The purpose of the program is to increase significantly the recycling efforts at the school. The grant will allow the school to purchase new recycling and composting bins and compostable cutlery and food-service ware, upgrade its recycling awareness program for students and staff, pay a part-time program coordinator for 125 hours of work during the school year, and implement procedures for measuring the results of the program efforts.

“Holy Angels has had a recycling program in place for many years. This grant gives us the opportunity to expand that program in several important ways," Brian McCartan, AHA development director, said. “We are committed to increasing student awareness of the importance of recycling and its relationship to our stewardship goals in general. We hope to decrease our solid waste refuse by about 25 percent at the same time that we increase recycling by about one third. We’re excited to get the program underway and to study its effects during this school year.”
