Richfield: A Time to Remember, Thank Our Vets

With the news that Osama bin Laden was killed by U.S. forces Sunday, take some time to remember those who sacrificed to bring us peace.

Richfield: A Time to Remember, Thank Our Vets

The world witnessed an historic day Sunday as every major television network interrupted programming in the late evening to tell the world Osama bin Laden had been killed in a planned attack by U.S. forces. The news came nearly 10 years after Bin Laden and al Qaida's Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Cheers, tears and the sight of waving American flags will likely define the coming days as the news sinks in. While we all reflect, we should all take a moment to remember our local service members who made great sacrifices in the name of freedom.

American military personnel reportedly faced great danger and enemy fire as it stormed a Pakistani mansion and killed the al Qaida leader. So why not take a little time to thank and remember them?

Please remember soldiers such as and Eden Prairie native Marine Corps Cpl. Tyler Fey, who was killed April 4, 2004 by hostile fire in Iraq's Anbar province. Fey was the fifth Minnesotan killed in Iraq.

And while you are remembering those who have fallen, remember to thank those who are still fighting and those who have returned home. You can do so in the comments section below.
