Today: Sen. Marty Talking to League About Gun Control

The Roseville state senator is scheduled to talk at the local League meetings today and Wednesday. The sessions are free and open to the public.

Today: Sen. Marty Talking to League About Gun Control

Editor's note: The following news announcement was submitted by Judy Berglund, of the Roseville-Maplewood-Falcon Heights chapter of the League of Women Voters-Minnesota.

State Sen. John Marty, DFL-Roseville, says it’s time we take comprehensive look at Minnesota’s gun laws to see what can be done to stop the rash of mass shootings in the state and across the nation in recent years.

Marty will share his ideas with members of the Roseville-Maplewood-Falcon Heights chapter of the League of Women Voters Minnesota at chapter meetings today and Wednesday (Feb. 19-20).

“Some have called for security changes in schools; some have called for a reduction in the violence in movies and video games; some have called for strengthening our mental health system; and some have called for gun laws with teeth,” Marty told the Apple Pie Alliance. “Most of these ideas could have an impact, but it’s also time for a comprehensive look at gun laws…Practically anyone can purchase an arsenal of weaponry powerful enough to gun down dozens of victims in minutes.

"Even people who have committed violent acts and even those with serious mental illness are able to purchase assault weapons and large capacity ammunition clips.”

Today's meeting will be at the Little Venetian Restaurant, 2900 Rice St., Little Canada.  A social hour and dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by a meeting at 7 p.m.  T

The Wednesday (Feb. 20) meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. at L 910 County Road D, Roseville.

The meetings are free and open to the public.
