City Council Debates Car-Sharing Pilot Contract Tuesday

Car2Go is one of three companies participating in the pilot project.

City Council Debates Car-Sharing Pilot Contract Tuesday
Tuesday, the Minneapolis City Council's budget committee takes up a proposed contract with Car2Go to establish a car-sharing pilot program.

According to documents posted on the city website, the proposed contract negotiated between city staff and the Daimler AG subsidiary features:
  • A free-floating, city-wide 350-car fleet, that could be expanded to 500 if demand for the car-sharing service supports it.
  • A $1,700 fee per car that Car2Go will pay Minneapolis to enable its vehicles to park anywhere in the city
Car2Go has been operating for several years in 16 cities in Europe and America, including Austin, TX. Users rent cars by the minute using a phone app or website, and access the cars using special cards.
