Former NFL Coach Dennis Green Dies

Green coached in the NFL for 13 seasons.

Former NFL coach Dennis Green died at the age of 67 Friday morning. Green coached the Vikings from 1992 until 2001, and the Cardinals from 2004 to 2006.

ESPN reporter Adam Schefter first broke the news via Facebook that Green died of cardiac arrest.

Green led the Vikings to eight playoff appearances in 10 seasons, reaching the NFC Championship game in 1998 and 2000. The Vikings had a 15-1 regular season record in 1998.

News of Green's passing broke moments before the Vikings kicked off the ribbon-cutting ceremony for their new home, U.S. Bank Stadium. A moment of silence was offered for Green at the stadium before the event began.

Former Vikings running back Robert Smith, who played for Green, posted a tribute to the coach on Twitter.

After Green was fired by the Vikings in 2002, he went on to coach the Arizona Cardinals for three seasons from 2004 to 2006.

One of Green's more memorable moments as coach of the Cardinals came during a press conference after Arizona blew a 20-0 halftime lead to the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football.

Green's career record was 113-94. He was 4-8 in the playoffs.
