With temperatures climbing past 90 degrees this week, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board has decided to keep many of Southwest Minneapolis' wading pools open past their typical closing times.
Around half of the city's 65 wading pools will be open through Sept. 9, rather than closing on Sept. 4 as usual. If temperatures remain at 80 degrees or above at that time, pools may remain open longer, the Park Board says.
Water parks closed and lifeguard services at beaches ended for the season on Sunday, Aug. 26, with most lifeguards going back to high school or college. Beaches will still remain open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day, and swim buoys at all beaches, will be removed Sept. 4–7.
The following wading pools at Southwest Minneapolis parks will stay open:
- Bryant Square - 3101 Bryant Ave. South
- - 3100 43rd St. West
- Pearl - 414 East Diamond Lake Rd.
- - 4055 Nicollet Ave. South
The National Weather Service projects daytime temperatures in Southwest Minneapolis will remain in the 80's and higher at least through Wednesday, Sept. 5.
