Man Charged with Assaulting St. Louis Park Woman

A Minneapolis man has been charged with assaulting a woman in St. Louis Park after police say the woman refused to shoplift for him.

Maurice Deon Jackson, 34, is charged with felony domestic assault, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, signed by St. Louis Park Police Officer Siar Nadem, the victim contacted police on Oct. 8 and told them that Jackson, whom she described as her live-in boyfriend, had beaten her the night before.

The woman said she and Jackson were outside a store in her car when he asked her to shoplift for him. When she refused, Jackson grabbed her by the neck, cutting off her breath, and then punched her in the face, according to the complaint.

Jackson’s criminal history includes convictions for fifth-degree assault in 1999 and 2005, a felony conviction for making terroristic threats in 2009 and a felony domestic assault conviction in 2011.

Jackson has been released on a $40,000 bond. His next court hearing is scheduled for Oct. 25 in Hennepin County District Court.
