Two residents are safe this morning following an early morning fire at their home in the 3900 block of Basswood Road in St. Louis Park.

Firefighters were called to the property at approximately 3 a.m. to find the home burning. Both residents escaped the fire before firefighters arrived.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but fire officials said it appears the fire began in a porch on the home, and it does not appear suspicious. Damage to the property could be as much as $1 million, according to fire chief Luke Stemmer.

City spokesman Jamie Zwilling said this is the second fire at the property in the last decade. The previous fire was reportedly caused by a lightning strike. The homeowners tore down the property, then rebuilt.

WCCO-TV has video of the early-morning blaze.

The St. Louis Park fire and police departments was assisted on the scene by crews from Edina, Hopkins and Golden Valley, and paramedics from Hennepin County Medical Center.
