Chesterfield Chamber Hires Successor to Joanie Schmelig

Four months after the loss of its founder and inaugural director, the Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce named Robey Taylor its new executive director, following .

Taylor was in commercial real estate and part of the Chesterfield Chamber—both a past board chairman and board director. He was a property manager for Sachs Properties up until June. (Louis S. Sachs died May 27; he created modern-day Chesterfield.)

Taylor was also general manager with The Richard E. Jacobs Group at Chesterfield Mall, according to LinkedIn, and graduated from Purdue and Fontbonne universities with an MBA.

"While I know the majority of our current members, I am looking forward to both expanding our current member relationships and to starting new relationships," Taylor said. "I look forward to assisting our members with helping them grow their companies, while also growing the Chesterfield business community.”

Don Meyer, current chairman of the Chamber announced the hire Friday.

"We are excited to have Robey on board to continue to grow and expand the many great programs that our good friend and leader, , initiated over the past 30-plus years," Meyer said in a written statement.

Meyer said a search committee and a "diverse group of business leaders" provided input on the hiring of the Chamber's second director in 30 years.

Chesterfield was incorporated as a city after a contentious campaign and vote two decades ago, but the Chamber existed prior to that.

Under Schmelig's leadership, businesses in the Valley were urged to evacuate ahead of the 1993 floods and led the way to rebuilding commerce afterward, by moving the Chamber to the heart of the Valley—at Long and Airport roads, 101 Chesterfield Business Parkway, 63005.

Meyer said there was an "excellent slate" of candidates for the post.

"The Chesterfield Chamber is a strong organization that provides many wonderful opportunities to promote and grow your business throughout the year," Taylor said.
