An 18-year-old Missouri Baptist University freshman died Tuesday after a head-on car crash with an SUV in Chesterfield, officials indicated.

Clayton Pfeiffer is a 2011 graduate of St. John Vianney High School in Kirkwood. He played baseball for the school.

Two others were hospitalized as a result of the three-car crash about 11 a.m. Police said more information would be released later Wednesday morning.

Police said an SUV jumped the center line on Olive Boulevard at Creve Coeur Mill Road, first clipping a truck and then plowing head-on into Pfeiffer's sedan.

St. John Vianney high school posted this word about the tragic news on its website Feb. 21.

It is with great sorrow that we report the death of Clayton Pfeiffer, who was killed in a car accident Feb. 21. Clayton was a freshman at Missouri Baptist University.

Pfeiffer was a key player on Vianney's baseball team last year when they took the Class 4 District 3 championship May 18, 2011.

"Vianney wasted no time tying the game up at 2-2. Leadoff hitter Clayton Pfeiffer lead off with a single," according to a story by Ethan Silverman on Prep Baseball Report.

"Clayton Pfeiffer got things started in the bottom of the fifth with a single," Silverman wrote.
