Mayor Linda Goldstein and Alderman Michelle Harris broke the ground.

Ground is Broken for Clayton Shaw Park Rec Trail

The following was submitted to Patch by the City of Clayton:

The City of Clayton is proud to announce that after nearly two years of fundraising and design work, the City and its partners broke ground on the Shaw Park Recreational Trail.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place at Shaw Park’s South Shelter on Oct. 30.

The re-envisioning of the trail will truly transform Shaw Park as a whole by adding to its walkability and creating new fitness experiences, forming peaceful natural alcoves and gathering spaces, expanding the cultural experience through public art, and encouraging a stronger community through healthy living.

The construction of the trail and its enhancements has been made possible through the fund raising efforts of the Clayton Century Foundation (CCF). Enterprise Holdings, Centene Charitable Foundation, Brown Shoe, Commerce Bancshares Foundation, the William T. Kemper Foundation, and Moneta Group have all made significat contributions that will help to reshape Shaw Park and its Recreational Trail.

Gary Feder, President of CCF noted, “A key role of the Clayton Century Foundation is to facilitate public-private sector partnerships to fund projects that would most likely not be otherwise possible. The new trail is a wonderful example of a project in which the CCF has been able to play an important part and thereby benefit the greater community.”

“The Clayton community benefits from our amazing park system,” said Mayor Linda Goldstein.

“Shaw Park especially is an important amenity that is enjoyed by residents from the entire region. The city is so grateful to the CCF and the other contributors for making this project possible.”

As a corporate partner supporting the Shaw Park Recreational Trail, Diane Sullivan, President and CEO of Brown Shoe noted that, “Brown Shoe Company’s corporate mission is to inspire people to feel good and live better... feet first!  We believe one great way to achieve our mission is available to us right here in our own backyard -- by pledging $150,000 to fund the creation of the Shaw Park Recreational Trail.

This amazing transformation of Shaw Park will bring improved walkability and new fitness experiences, peaceful natural alcoves and gathering spaces to be enjoyed by everyone in the community, including our nearly 900 Clayton-based Associates.”
