Fenton Approves Trail Right of Way, Votes Down Fire Code

A recap of the last Fenton Board of Aldermen meeting.

Fenton Approves Trail Right of Way, Votes Down Fire Code

Fenton aldermen voted to accept a right-of-way and easement from the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District for a new Meramec River Bike trail. The easement will run along Opps Lane, near Denny Dennis and the new Meramec River bridge.

The trail easement will allow the city to complete the Fenton Trailhead Connection Project, which will be located near Old Highway 141 and Old Gravois Road.

The aldermen also voted 5 to 2 against an ordinance that would have required new single-family and two-family homes to have finished basement ceilings as a fire precaution.

The failed fire code would have required half-inch drywall or 5/8 inch wood panels to cover the underneath size of floor framing members, unless the floor is over a sprinkler or crawl space.

Several aldermen voiced concern that the code would prevent homeowners from being able to alter their basements or make other home improvements.
