Man Fights Officer, Tries to Grab His Handgun, Police Say

St. Louis County Police said a 19-year-old DeSoto man struggled with an officer and tried to grab the officer’s firearm Feb. 18 in Fenton.

Cody Arnold, 19, of the 2100 block of Big River Trails in DeSoto, was charged Tuesday with assaulting a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.

St. Louis County Police said an officer ran a license plate check on a vehicle and received a “No record on file” response.  The officer pulled over the vehicle driven by Arnold in the 1400 block of Ivy View Court in Fenton, according to a police report.

Arnold and two others got out of the car, and the officer was conducting a pat down search when Arnold started running away, police said. The officer pursued him and struggled with Arnold for four minutes, police said.

During the struggle, Arnold hit and kicked the officer and kept trying to grab the officer’s duty weapon, according to the report.

The officer reported that Arnold repeatedly told him, “I’m not going back to jail.”

Arnold was being held in St. Louis County jail Thursday. Bail was set at $30,000.
