Rockwood Students Honor Veterans

Veterans receive appreciation in all Rockwood Schools

Students across the Rockwood School District honored America’s servicemen and women in celebration of Veterans Day.  The communications staff of the district distributed photos of the events of the day, as veterans young and old were recognized for their service. From classroom lessons to ceremonies, musical performances and more, students found ways to thank veterans for their service.

Highlights from the school events included:

  • Babler Elementary School students worked with their friends to design and write and thank you cards for veterans.
  • Ballwin Elementary School recognized veterans with a schoolwide celebration and assembly.  After being greeted with a Humvee outside the school, students, staff and veterans participated in an assembly featuring the special chorus, Cub Scouts in Pack 621 and the Marquette High School Marching Band.  Veterans also participated as guest speakers in the classrooms.
  • Chesterfield Elementary School honored more than 30 veterans during a schoolwide celebration.  Among the activities, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts led the Pledge of Allegiance and performed a flag ceremony.  The special chorus also performed a variety of patriotic songs and each grade level presented a special service learning project in celebration of America's service men and women.
  • Crestview Middle School honored more than 50 veterans during a breakfast and school assembly.  The band, choir and orchestra performed a variety of patriotic songs along with the Louis & Clark Fife Core.  Students also paid tribute to four Rockwood students who lost their lives serving in the Armed Forces.
  • Ellisville Elementary School honored veterans and active duty military during an assembly.  The event included a flag ceremony performed by Marquette High School's AFJROTC and patriotic music.  Prior to the event, students also worked collaboratively to create a hallway display to honor their families and friends for their military service.
  • Eureka High School honored veterans during its 9th annual recognition luncheon.  Police, fire fighters and veterans attended the event, which featured a flag ceremony performed by Lafayette High School's AFJROTC and patriotic music.  Veterans were also treated to lunch, which was served by Eureka High students and staff.
  • Kehrs Mill Elementary School performed a musical for special guests and military veterans.
  • LaSalle Springs Middle School honored veterans during an assembly.  Prior to the assembly, students were asked to share why they are proud of their family members and friends who have served or are serving in the military.
  • Students at in Fenton, honored more than 70 military veterans and their families during a recognition ceremony and luncheon.
  • Selvidge Middle School hosted its third annual salute to veterans breakfast and assembly, featuring patriotic music.
