One Des Peres neighborhood has a sweet back-to-school tradition.

Families of school-age children gather each year for a bus stop breakfast before the first day of school in the . Moms, dads and even grandparents show up with backpack-laden kids and cameras in hand.

On Wednesday morning, as usual, card tables were set up near the bus stop and bagels, fruit, doughnuts, yogurt, cereal and juice boxes began to appear.

"I think it's a great way to ease them into the back-to-school routine," said Kim Goretzke, who put three children on the bus to , including 5-year-old Nick, who was headed off to kindergarten.

She said the end-of-summer tradition alleviated anxieties for the kids and ramped up enthusiasm about school and that first bumpy bus ride of the season.

"Nick was super excited that he got to get on the bus and go to school with his brothers," she said.
