Doors open for 98th Year at Community School Today

Today, Community School opened its doors to begin the first day of its 98th year of providing a world-class education for elementary-aged students. This morning, as every morning, Head of School Dr. Matthew Gould stood on the front steps to shake students' hands and welcome them to school.
This year, students are thrilled to find some new playground equipment which was installed over the summer, including more swings.
Teachers are excited about beginning a new program called Math in Focus. The program - piloted last year in a few classrooms and now adopted schoolwide - is based on the Singapore Math approach. The program focuses on fewer overall concepts but promotes a much deeper understanding and more critical thinking about problem solving.

Gould commented, "The research on the Singapore math approach is universally favorable. We are excited to add this program to the already rich academic experience at Community School."
Community School serves students from age 3 through sixth grade, and its current enrollment is 350.
