District Starts Second Character Education Program

This year, Project ENGAGE Plus will focus on kindness.

In 2011, Mehlville School District students spent countless hours volunteering in a district-wide character education program called Project ENGAGE (Enriching Neighborhoods through Generous Actions, Growth and Empowerment). The program, created by Superintendent Eric Knost, emphasized helping others through different acts of community service.

Today, the district starts Project ENGAGE Plus, the same service with the added component of kindness.

“By celebrating the students’ contributions to their community, we are not only helping to develop students of character, but we are encouraging students to carry the ideals of kindness and service with them throughout the rest of their lives,” Knost said in a district release.

Students volunteered at summer camps, cleaned parks and helped shovel neighbors’ snow during the movement. Their efforts benefitted Feed My People, Meals on Wheels and the Special Olympics.

The project will run from Jan. 13 to April 13. Visit the Project ENGAGE Facebook page
