Renaissance St. Louis, the parent 501(c)(3) company of the St. Louis Renaissance Faire, has announced on its website that it will not offer a Student Day at this year's event. The Faire is held annually in .

Student Day is generally held on a Friday during the Renaissance Faire's run, and school groups are invited to attend an abbreviated festival day with special educational programs in addition to a selection of professional stage acts and merchants and a jousting performance.

The organization says that last year's (2011) Student Day had a limited number of school participating because of budget and transportation expenses, and extra snow days added to the schedule.

This year, RSL staffers say, the financial situation in school districts hasn't changed, but the mild winter and subsequent lack of snow day use means that many schools will complete their school year before Student Day is scheduled to occur. The website states:

With 45 days from our planned 2012 Student Day Program we find that the number of reservations made by schools to attend this year’s Student Day program is again very, very light. Faced with scheduling entertainers and merchants for an event which has very few students attending for the second year in a row, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2012 Student Day Program.

The website notes that the cancellation is not permanent, but they will study the possibility of a 2013 Student Day.
