Weight Loss Program Helps Clients Lose Weight, Keep It Off

National weight loss program Take Shape For Life aims to help clients not only lose weight, but keep it off and improve their overall health.

As any serial dieter can attest, losing weight can be a fairly simple process. It’s keeping the weight off that can prove difficult.

There can be numerous factors for regaining weight that has been previously lost, from the lack of having a support system or weight loss buddy to simply not changing one’s lifestyle.

Take Shape For Life is a national health and weight loss plan with local representatives, called a health coach, who guide clients on their journey toward better health.

“Our objective is not only to lose weight, but to create optimal health,” said Take Shape For Life health coach Mike Winslow.

Winslow said he got started with Take Shape For Life a year ago, as a client of the weight loss plan first. He said he became a certified health coach after having personal success with the program. Winslow said he’s down 35 pounds total.

One of the factors that helped Winslow lose the weight, and keep it off, was the way the program centered on having an overall healthy lifestyle, not just the goal of losing weight.

“When someone’s focus is to lose weight and reach a certain goal, once their goal is reached, that’s when the momentum can get lost, which causes people to fail and regain the weight,” Winslow said.

Instead, Winslow said the program differs from other diet or exercise programs since the ultimate goal is optimal health, and once people lose weight that’s not the end of the program.

“The key is we don’t leave anyone out in cold after weight loss, because it’s not a diet, it’s a lifestyle change,” said area health coach John Spear of the program.

Winslow said another factor that makes Take Shape For Life unique is the program’s bio network support system. This system includes a personal coach, and the ability to reach out to dieticians and trainers on staff at any time, as well as other factors.

Spear said the weight loss plan has been gaining momentum, partly because so many of the Take Shape For Life health coaches are in fact successful clients of the program.

“We’re all like walking billboards for the program, because we’ve all been successful with the program,” Spear said.

Spear said he got started in the program after his wife, Madeleine, who is also a certified health coach, shed some pounds through the plan. Spear said his wife found out about Take Shape For Life from her doctor and lost 25 pounds in her first month, and is down a total of 60 pounds. Spears said he has lost a total of 73 pounds in six months.

“I really didn’t think I’d become a health coach, but as I got involved, I’ve seen that  it’s a life changer for people,” said Spear.
