Weird Crimes: Naked and Forgetful Burglars and a Careless Lookout

Patch's roundup of strange and unusual crime from around the area.

Weird Crimes: Naked and Forgetful Burglars and a Careless Lookout

A burglary buff

A naked man broke into a St. Charles County home May 29 as the homeowner was sleeping.

A St. Charles County Sheriff’s deputy reported that Joseph M. Mahoney, 24, was completely nude when he broke into the home in the 200 block of Willis Drive near St. Peters.

Lt. Craig McGuire of the St. Charles County Sheriff’s Department said Mahoney, of Lake Saint Louis, broke in through a back door and began pounding on the closed bedroom door where the resident was sleeping. The man got a shotgun, opened the door and kept Mahoney there until Sheriff’s deputies responded.

Mahoney’s reasons for being naked and for breaking into the home were unclear, McGuire said. Except for this:

“When deputies arrived, (Mahoney) was incoherent and mumbling,” McGuire said. He said Mahoney was extremely drunk.

Mahoney, of the first block of Catamaran Drive in Lake Saint Louis, was charged Wednesday with first-degree burglary, property damage and second-degree sexual misconduct.

Weird Crime is just wondering if the arresting deputy let Mahoney sit directly on the squad car’s seat on the ride to St. Charles County jail.

Cell mate

When a University City woman interrupted a burglary in her house, someone left behind two televisions stacked near her back door and a backpack containing an Xbox in the backyard.

The woman heard someone inside her house, fled and called police. Police found the items moved around and outside her home. The next day, the woman also found a cell phone in her home that didn’t belong to her.

University City Police tracked down the phone’s owner, Jelani Kyles Bouchillon, 21, of the 200 block of Hord Avenue in Jennings. He’s charged with first-degree burglary and attempted theft.

Look out!

A Ferguson man was arrested May 31 inside a home in the 5600 of Jennings Station Road, for burglarizing the home.

The man, Deonte M. Cole, 22, told St. Louis County Police he was acting as a lookout for another suspect inside the residence. Again, the police arrested Cole inside the home, and Cole was the lookout.

Weird Crime suspects the other defendant will want to go over the job description of a lookout with Cole a few times.

Harold and Kumar on Vacation?

A St. Charles police officer stopped a man driving an SUV on eastbound Interstate 70 and apparently knew something wasn’t quite right about the driver from California and passenger from North Carolina.

He asked for permission to search the SUV, but was denied. So he had a K-9 unit come out and take a sniff around the car.

The K-9 counterpart, Tucker, alerted on the car and officers found 35 to 40 pounds of marijuana inside a rooftop cargo carrier.

Heath Condie, 33, of Campbell, CA and Justin Harris, 28, of Lexington, NC, each were charged May 20 with delivering a controlled substance -- it being very unlikely they would smoke 35 to 40 pounds of marijuana themselves.
