Red Cross Responded to 1,300 Incidents in 2011-12

In light of several fires in recent weeks, the American Red Cross Greater St. Louis Region has released its figures for small-scale fire and emergency response efforts for the previous 12-month period.

The following numbers represent the Red Cross fiscal year, which ended June 30.

Across the Greater St. Louis Region, which includes St. Louis City and 72 counties in Missouri and Illinois, Disaster Action Team volunteers:

  • Responded to more than 1,300 to fires and other emergency incidents; which breaks down to an average of three responses a day
  • Assisted more than 4,300 people with immediate needs such as assistance for food, clothing and shelter
  • Provided canteen items such as water, snacks and meals to more than 14,000 residents and emergency responders
